Cansu Çakar
Istanbul-born artist Cansu Çakar revitalizes traditional Turkish arts, such as illumination and miniature painting,by merging them with contemporary themes and practices. Through her drawings, paintings, and workshops, she investigates male-dominated social, historical, and architecturalnarratives to challenge conservative classifications and explore the continuity of tradition in a modern context. Her work forges a symbolic dialogue that seeks emancipation and a pluralistic language, effectively redefining the miniature format. This practice is reflected in her significant international exhibitions, including shows at Tate St. Ives, the Berlin Biennale, and the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden.
